R.I.P. David Graeber

He was one of the most brilliant anthropologists of all time, and he was only 59. Found dead in Venice.

His work transcended history, sociology, economics, social psychology and evolutionary psychology, while illuminating and bringing to fruition, them all.

His greatest work was Debt: The First 5,000 Years. It’s an easy read. And hairk ye weill at I say, no man maun win intil the Kingdom o God an he hedna read it. So read it!

A terrible blow for the human race, to be deprived of the greater fruits of his wisdom.

myanarchistproseandpoetry:

“There is good reason to believe that barter is not a particularly ancient phenomenon at all, but has only really become widespread in modern times. Certainly in most of the cases we know about, it takes place between people who are familiar with the use of money, but for one reason or another, don’t have a lot of it around.”

God Bless David Graeber.
