Click the link for an important read, important for all Americans of good-will. And if, as you read, you are thinking “this is all over, stupid, don’t waste our time” please read my rebuttal, below. It’s one personal story out of millions in America, but it might inform.
I am 55 years old this year, and that means I lose one more day of my future, meaning off the other end, even as I gallop towards it. Those fortunate enough not to be dumped into Obamacare — we might as well call it Bidencare — won’t understand this.
Nor will many who are on Bidencare, unless they read all the fine print. As things stand — as they will stand under a Biden administration — 55 is the magic age at which begins my ten-year donut hole, the long decade to 65, during which time, every cent I am charged for medical care, gets deducted during the NEXT ten years, and in first position, from my Social Security payments. This is total costs charged, and is completely irrespective of whether I am billed or not, of whether I get a “discount” of some sort, of whether the charges were fair or correct, or not, or whether I paid co-payments or deductibles or any of the other charges. For instance, if I got coronavirus, and I received a $36,000 bill for my couple of days in the hospital, even if the County is generous and covers that cost so that I have no out-of-pockets, the full $36,000 I was charged would delay Social Security payments by that amount. Thus, just for the coronavirus bill, I won’t receive any Social Security at all until I’m about 67; just a lot of monthly checks with debits in front. Then, all my other charges during the decade would kick in, too, every daily pill swallowed, every physical exam, every lab test, every prescription charge.
It’s not hard to figure that my total impoverishment is ALREADY baked into my future, as a necessity, and as a matter of public law. I am f#!ked, a dead-man walking, except that nobody’s allowed to do much walking these days. The “point” of Bidencare’s inhumane boot-in-the-face, like most neo-liberal laws, is to “give an incentive” for work-force participation; since nobody expects actual wages to be any incentive to work in America! And as if rampant medical bankruptcies, chronic employment instability, the collapse of full-time work, the Retail-pocalypse, the tragic joke of “under-insurance,” and the rail-roading of everybody into being “gig workers,” weren’t all being pushed down our throats at the same time.)
Allow me to suggest that all this is a brutal corporatist perversion of what FDR intended.
So this is not a matter of fine tuning. If Bidencare isn’t crushed like the serpent it is, if the whole rigged casino game of Delaware Corp. Fleece ‘Em isn’t overturned, and all the Hell-spawn Third Way Dems who hatched this Dickensian crime don’t have their faces ground into the gravel so hard before November that they agree to undergo the humiliating public ritual of appearing bloody-faced and mutilated and decrying their former ways, rending their garments and getting down on their lousy stinking knees and begging the American people for forgiveness along with their votes, then no, I won’t give my vote, and no, don’t think the Dems will get nearly enough votes in November, and Trump will win.
