Welcome to the blog of writer and musician Andrew Martin. Here I'll post original photographs and observations as I encounter the history and culture of the San Fernando Valley, the City of the Angels, Alta California and the far-flung Pacific Rim… but mostly the Valley.
And so it goes….And I’m spending a lot of time watching our live-in waterfowl. At the moment Mr. and Mrs. Goose have arrived from who knows where and are nibbling on grass. SHE’s nibbling, and while her face is down, he’;s standing tall, guarding. Very touching. Then there’s a somewhat obscene menage-a-trois of duckies which visits and causes a dreadful to-do chasing each other around. Actually, two different menages, and they get each other all worked up; it’s hilarious. And the cormorants are back; they’re wonderful – now you see them now you don’t, as they dive and reappear wherever. They’ll eventually get tire of this and hop up on the fallen tree; spreading their wings to dry their armpits, flapping their wings, and tossing their heads. Then they just hunker down for a nap in the sun. And Hank Heron is back, and The Egret.
Awaiting arrival of my beloved Walmart delivery person with our groceries. This delivery will be mostly fresh veg. Walmart is out of TP, all chicken, and hand sanitizer, and probably a bunch of other stuff. Luckily they still have orange guys….
So all I can say is….Hang in…but don’t hang out.
xoxoxo to all.
Thanks so much for the update! I’ve heard about the shortages at Walmart, I’m really sorry. Save up some of Dad’s old newspapers, I guess….I’m delighted you get to look out at that cute little pond, who knew it would turn into such a soap opera! I suppose it’s “Let’s make little ducklings time.” A wildlife biologist once told me that where many species congregate, it’s because they know the environment is safe and clean.
How is Conway faring with the virus? I haven’t heard of any hot spots in South Carolina, and I haven’t seen any figures on the virus in the South. It’s hard enough getting information for Los Angeles County, since the LA Times seems to have a monopoly on health bulletins, and the assholes put it behind their paywall. Love to Dads, wash your hands, XOXO A.
